mushr writes: This is my favorite movie. So I wrote a poem inspired by this scene. This is after Peter Handke’s Songs of Childhood. This is my own version:
When the child was a child…
It knew everything.
The child taught his mother & father how to love.
The child spoke his first word,
and it became a language.
On the ground, the child taught himself
how to fly.
The child kissed everyone
on the forehead.
One day the child fell in love with the circus.
The child became a trapeze artist.
The child spun in the air,
& became enamored with
the fear of flying.
One day the child fell from the balance.
The child noticed it didn’t have wings.
The child tasted her first sorrow.
The child realized she was naked.
So she wrapped herself with skin.
The child continued to spin in the air.
Inventing the motion of gravity.
The child tried her hands at creating dreams.
The child became invisible.
The child was no longer a child.
